Partners

Partnerships built on shared purpose.

IGHAC does not pursue partnerships for revenue, visibility, or credibility by association. Every partnership exists because it advances something IGHAC cannot advance as effectively alone: the evidence base, the reach of good standards, or the professional capacity of practitioners who work with people experiencing gambling harm.

Partnership Types

Six types of partnership.

Each partnership type is structured to serve a specific purpose. IGHAC does not run a single generic partnership programme. Different organisations contribute different things and need different things in return.

🎓

Academic Research Partner

Universities, research units, and research councils that co-produce evidence with IGHAC. Research partners are named in publications, collaborate on study design, and provide academic peer review for IGHAC-led studies.

Currently seeking: South African and East African universities with gambling harm, addiction, or public health research capacity
🏥

Clinical Network Partner

Treatment services, clinical practices, and therapeutic networks that provide clinical data, participate in IGHAC validation studies, and implement IGHAC standards and training frameworks in their practice.

Currently seeking: Gambling disorder specialists and addiction treatment services in South Africa first, and in the other jurisdictions within IGHAC's research scope thereafter

Regulatory and Government Partner

National gambling regulatory bodies, parliamentary research offices, and public health departments that commission or adopt IGHAC research and advisory work in their formal regulatory and policy processes.

Status: no regulatory partnership yet formed. Approaches to the South African National Gambling Board and the Kenya Gambling Regulatory Authority are scheduled for Q4 2026.
🤝

NGO and Civil Society Partner

Harm reduction organisations, financial counselling services, and community development bodies that implement IGHAC guidance at the community level and provide IGHAC with frontline data on harm patterns not visible through clinical or regulatory channels.

Priority: Organisations working with women, youth, and low-income populations in Sub-Saharan Africa
🏢

Employer and EAP Partner

Large employers and EAP provider networks that pilot IGHAC workplace standards and provide aggregate, de-identified workforce data for IGHAC research. Employers may fund workplace research through the IGHAC research programme. Gambling operators may not, in any capacity, including as employers.

Status: in design. Sector-specific workplace standard pilots are planned for mining, retail banking and financial services, and depend on the workplace baseline study now being scoped.

International Advisory Partner

International bodies, multi-lateral organisations, and overseas advisory committees whose mandate intersects with IGHAC's and who are willing to formalise collaboration on evidence sharing, standards harmonisation, or joint advisory work.

Currently seeking: Equivalent advisory bodies in the UK and Ireland for cross-jurisdictional research collaboration
Priority Jurisdictions

Four jurisdictions in research scope.

These are the four jurisdictions IGHAC has assessed and prioritised for partnership development. IGHAC states its position in each one plainly, and does not describe an intention as an engagement. Where a partnership has not yet been formed, the entry says so. This page is updated when a position changes, and the date of last review is shown below.

🇿🇦

South Africa

Founding jurisdiction and the seat of incorporation. IGHAC is a CIPC-registered non-profit company here, and its first two studies are South African. All six partnership types are open. Priority sectors are mining, financial services, retail and community health.

Founding Jurisdiction
🇰🇪

Kenya

Primary East African jurisdiction and the focus of IGHAC's mobile gambling harm work. The Gambling Regulatory Authority, established under the Gambling Control Act 2025, carries a statutory research mandate. No partnership is yet in place. Academic and regulatory approaches are scheduled for Q4 2026.

Approach scheduled
🇬🇧

United Kingdom

The largest concentration of gambling harm research capacity anywhere, and the source of several methods IGHAC replicates. No partnership is yet in place. IGHAC is approaching UK research institutions as a collaborator on African-focused work.

Approach scheduled
🇮🇪

Ireland

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland is the closest structural analogue anywhere to what IGHAC is building: a young statutory body with a Social Impact Fund whose published priorities include workforce training, referral pathways and research. No partnership is yet in place. IGHAC's interest here is as a design peer.

Monitoring

Jurisdiction positions last reviewed 10 September 2026.

What IGHAC Does Not Do

Independence means some doors stay shut.

IGHAC's independence is its most valuable asset and the thing most at risk from poorly structured partnerships. These are the partnership forms IGHAC will not enter, regardless of the financial offer or the identity of the organisation involved.

No operator research partnerships

IGHAC accepts no funding from gambling operators, in any form, for any purpose. Not for research, not for specific studies, and not for general operations by way of restricted grant, sponsorship or donation. IGHAC will not enter research partnerships with operators and will not allow operators to commission or co-author IGHAC research. This is fixed by founding board resolution, which IGHAC provides in full on written request. Any contact with a licensed operator is recorded in a transparency register, available on the same basis. This is not negotiable.

No co-branding of research outputs

No partner, regardless of their contribution to IGHAC, may co-brand a research publication, advisory position, or published standard. Partners may be acknowledged; they are not attributed authorship of IGHAC's independent outputs. Operator and commercial organisations specifically may not appear as co-producers of any IGHAC advisory or research material.

No policy positions purchased by funders

IGHAC does not take policy positions based on funder or partner preferences. Research findings are published as they stand. If a funder or partner disagrees with an IGHAC position, IGHAC's board makes the final call on publication. No partnership agreement includes any right of review, veto, or pre-approval over IGHAC publications.

No partnerships that compromise member integrity

IGHAC will not enter partnerships that would require members to share personal assessment data with employers, operators, or third parties without the explicit, informed consent of the individual concerned. The professional relationship between a member practitioner and their client is never subject to commercial partnership terms.

IGHAC partnership discussions begin with an understanding of what each party brings and what they need. There is no standard partnership template because no two partnerships serve exactly the same purpose. Contact us to start a conversation.
